'Will protect MLAs,' says HD Kumaraswamy amid poaching fears  4 Days ago

NEW DELHI: Congress leader Ramalinga Reddy on Thursday accused the BJP of offering money to MLAs who are lodged inside a resort in Bengaluru.

“After the police was withdrawn (from outside Eagleton Resort), they (BJP) came inside and offered money. Constantly they have been calling people on phone,” said Reddy.

The Karnataka Congress leader also said that his party is mulling shifting its MLAs out of Bengaluru.

"We will be shifted today. We will tell you more later. JD(S) MLAs are not coming along. The place has not been decided yet," he said.

Earlier today, JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy had said that his party will protect all the Congress and JD(S) MLAs to prevent any poaching ahead of the trust vote in the assembly.

"Congress and JD(S) will protect all their MLAs in Karnataka. After taking oath he (Yeddyurappa) has already transferred 4 IPS officers. BJP's movement is laughable," Kumaraswamy told the media.

Kumaraswamy said that the JD(S) will give security to its MLAs in the state. "We have to protect them and all 37 MLAs of the JD(S) are with me," he said, adding that he was keeping an eye on the moves of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Outgoing chief minister Siddaramaiah also accused the BJP of indulging in "horse-trading".

"This is unethical and against the principles of democracy. No MLA will yield to their demand," he said.

Meanwhile, Congress leader KH Muniyappa alleged that security of Congress MLAs lodged in Bengaluru's Eagleton Resort was intentionally removed, hours after Yeddyurappa took oath as the chief minister of the state.

"This is not the system. Irrespective of the government, it is their duty to provide protection, security to the elected representatives," Muniyappa said.

Congress and JD(S) move came as Yeddyurappa effected a major bureaucratic reshuffle in the state hours after taking oath.

Several IAS and IPS officers were today transferred and a new Advocate General appointed in a top-level reshuffle.

In a major decision, the newly-appointed Yeddyurappa government appointed senior advocate Prabhuling K Navadagi as the Advocate General of Karnataka, in place of Madhusudan R Naik, who has since resigned.

The JD(S) leader accused the Modi-led government of demolishing democracy in the country. The leader also alleged that the Centre is using agencies like the Enforcement Directorate to threaten MLAs of the Congress-JD(S) combine in Karnataka.
